Nonnas of the World is a heartfelt evolution of the cherished culinary tradition born at Enoteca Maria, a one-of-a-kind Staten Island restaurant where grandmothers from across the globe take turns in the kitchen, crafting the authentic dishes of their heritage. What began as an intimate, soulful concept has blossomed into a global movement that honors the wisdom, culture, and enduring spirit of grandmothers everywhere. Today, Nonnas of the World furthers this mission by serving as a worldwide platform for connection, inclusivity, and the preservation of cultural traditions.

Nonnas of the World creates a platform for grandmothers to share their culinary heritage. Turning kitchens into classrooms, elders into teachers, and traditions into bridges to modernity, we strengthen intergenerational bonds, combat elder isolation, foster resilience in a changing world, and promote cross-cultural understanding and cultural awareness.

Meet Our Founder: Jody Scaravella
Jody Scaravella is the visionary behind both Enoteca Maria and Nonnas of the World. In 2007 he founded Enoteca Maria in honor of his mother and grandmother, transforming grief into one of the most beloved culinary experiences in New York City. What began as a tribute to his heritage expanded in 2015 into a worldwide celebration of grandmotherly wisdom. His vision of honoring nonnas through food became a powerful celebration of cultural identity, respect for age, and community spirit.
His journey—from grief to global impact—has touched countless lives and inspired a powerful movement. In 2025, Jody’s story and the spirit of Nonnas of the World were brought to the screen in the Netflix film “Nonnas,” featuring Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon, Linda Cardellini, and other acclaimed actors. The film shares the emotional journey, and struggles, behind the founding of Nonnas of the World and celebrates the women who make it all possible.
